ACC Inquiry: In the Matter of the Commission's Inquiry into Retail Electric Competition
Case Information:
During a Staff Meeting conducted on Thursday, May 9, 2013, the five elected members of the Arizona Corporation Commission ("ACC" or "Commission") voted to open a generic docket for the purpose of studying the implementation of retail electric competition.
On May 28, 2013, the Commission sent out a letter(link is external) to various stakeholders, including RUCO, soliciting their comments and responses on a number of questions related to a possible transition to a deregulated electric market in Arizona.
Initial comments on the letter are due by July 15, 2013. Responsive comments should be filed by August 16, 2013. Instructions for filing written comments in the docket may be found at www.azcc.gov(link is external) or by calling (602) 542-4251 or 1-800-222-7000. Anyone intending to file comments is reminded that such filings are matters of public record, and should not contain information, including personal information, that is not intended for public disclosure.
On Monday, June 10, 2013, RUCO filed an Application to Intervene(link is external) in the docket.
Under a deregulated electric market, Arizona electric customers would be ale to choose their electric service provider in a manner that is similar to the way in which they currently choose their local and long-distance telephone service providers.
On Monday, July 15, 2013, RUCO filed its comments(link is external) to the Commission's inquiry.
